Ottobre Design is essentially the entire reason Crafty Mamas exists today. Being a mum  of 4 myself ( 2 boys and 2 girls!) , I originally started sewing from Top Kids mag when the eldest was about 3... ( now I'm showing my age) and when it stopped being published- I was lost! Then thanks to the internet, I began to see this " Ottobre "  being mentioned in sewing forums, and I was hooked. As it was not available in my local newsagent- I gladly took on the agency for Australia. Of course I also soon needed the beautiful Euro fabrics I saw in the mag- so Crafty Mamas became the largest stockist of high quality Euro knits in Australia.

I get lots of emails from people wanting to starting sewing Otto, but they are not quite sure if they are ready for this type of pattern delivery. Here's my most answered questions:

    1. Are the patterns hard/complicated?

Some are yes- but many are also aimed at beginners.  The best way to add to your  knowledge bank of sewing , is to start simple and work your way up. Otto will help you do that!

    2. But there are no pictures with the instructions?

No, not for all things- Otto assume you will read and follow their very clear instructions. They do give pictured instructions for generic things like neckbindings, pockets etc in every issue. If you are ever stuck, we have a fabulous FB Group full of friendly sewing people happy to help.

    3. Can I sell the items I make using Otto patterns?

No. Otto give specific instructions on the inside of every  cover in regards to this, "  the designs, instructions and patterns are only intended for personal use by sewing hobbyists. All commercial or industrial use is prohibited".

    4. I won't know how to trace the patterns of or find my sizes?

I've got tutorials on the blog to help you with this- it's easy!

Now- let's get to the Give-away!

I have TWO issues of the Winter 6/2015 issue to give -away to two lucky readers.  Simply leave me a comment as to why you need Otto in your life! I've announce our winners on Monday 16th November. Good luck!

I started with Otto and might glad I did! I have to have it because I love the size range that it goes up to and the number of patterns it has in one issue. Definitely value for money!! I LOVE OTTOBRE!!

    6. Hayley November 13, 2015

I have coveted Ottobre for ages but never plucked up the courage to buy one, would love to break my Ottobre drought!

    7. Rosemary November 13, 2015

i would love a copy! My husband, myself and our two kids are on the smaller side of normal! As a result I have many problems finding commercially made clothes that fit and make custom sizes for us! More patterns from Ottobre means larger wardrobe range!

In the last year, since I started sewing for my kiddies I’ve gone from wovens to minky and PUL ( nappies), to knits. I’ve bought an overlocker, a coverstitch, and then a better sewing machine. I’m obsessed. I have an overpowering NEED to learn more. I’m yet to try Otto but I’d love to be given the opportunity. :)

I’ve just started sewing knits in the last 2 years and am gradually becoming more confident. I love that you can use them to build your skills up at your own pace.

Hi! I would love Ottobre Design in my life because I live a long way from home and the designs and fabrics are something that reminds me of home. Also, I have now been sewing for a year and eagerly want to try out patterns that are a little more demanding ?

    18. Sharon November 12, 2015

Because they have such cute kids clothing and there’s lots I’d love to make for my two daughters.
